This man, James Verone, robbed a bank for one dollar. Why only one dollar? Because he knew that in prison he could get the medical care he could not afford with his part time salary as a convenience store clerk. He was approved for food stamps, but they did little to help his finances. Between his back problems, carpel tunnel, and arthritis, he simply couldn’t handle the pain any longer.
On June 9th, he sent a letter to his local paper, the Gaston Gazette, that stated: “When you receive this a bank robbery will have been committed by me. this robbery is being committed by me for one dollar. I am of sound mind but not so much sound body.”
He then took a cab to the RBC Bank, and handed the teller a note asking for one dollar and medical attention. He quietly took a seat in the lobby and waited for police to arrive.
Since Verone only stole one dollar, he was only charged with larceny. His bail, which he doesn’t plan to pay is set at $2,000, reduced from the normal $100,000. He’s scheduled to see a doctor this Friday, and hopes to get foot surgery, back surgery and to have a protrusion on his check treated.
To me, this is the perfect example of how disturbingly corrupt and unjust our health care system has become under HMO’s. For this man, or any person for that matter, feels that he needs to be imprisoned just to see a doctor, is ridiculous.
This is exactly what I hate about America. Why is it that you can buy an entire house with money you don’t have, but still can’t apply for health care if you don’t meet the requirements? That’s messed up.

this is my brother two years ago. we were at the park, just me and him, and he turned to me and said “kayla, don’t you ever wish there were no bad people in the world?” i thought it to be a funny thing for a 5 year old to say, but shrugged it off. last year, he didnt come home from school, we thought that being only in grade prep, he might’ve decided to go home with his bestfriend without telling us, but he didn’t.  the school confirmed they saw him get on his school bus after the bell rang. but thats all we knew, the bus driver said that he had gotten off a stop early, my mother was frantically searching the neighbourhood for him. we never found him. it’s been two years and we’re still looking for him, he was such a beautiful boy, and i cant help but think the worst. he could be anywhere in the world by now, so please, reblog this, no matter where you’re from, you could save a life. xx

if you dont reblog this i have no respect for you. help save a child’s life.

When Allison decides to go off the map for a bit, the only person who sees her is Isaac.

Not because they have a big secret love affair, but because Allison spends more time at her Mothers grave than she’ll ever admit to anyone.

See, Isaac needs his time alone. And even if he doesn’t have to work at the graveyard anymore, he does. He likes the quiet.

He doesn’t worry about her, though. He knows how grief goes. It becomes a thing between them. The awkward glances when he sees her writing next to her Mom’s grave. The tiny smiles they give each other in greeting or goodbyes.

He decides it’s better not to listen when she starts talking to the headstone. It feels too personal for him to hear what she says. It’s not for him. It’s for her.

He doesn’t realize how much he got used to seeing her there until she doesn’t show up anymore. It surprises and scares him at the same time.

Rape Culture? What is this “Rape Culture” you speak of?Seriously though, this is terrifying. God forbid I wear a skirt outside — I’m just ASKING   to be raped if I do that.

The 58% statistic actually terrifies me more than any other. Suddenly change the word and you don’t care?
No one will ever be able to convince me that words hold no power.

And that’s way higher than 8%, if you take “coercive behavior” into account. Then it’s up to 43% AT LEAST.
